2nd Annual Concours d’Elegance

August 25, 2007 11:00 AM UNTIL 3:30 PM, San Juan Vineyards

ig_2nd_Concours-1 (104k image)
The Second Annual Concours d’Elegance of the San Juan Islands will be held Saturday, August 25th, at the San Juan Vineyards, 3136 Roche Harbor Road, Friday Harbor, Washington. This exciting event will be organized by The Sports Car Club of The San Juan Islands.

Celebrating the spirit of great American and European carmakers, the event will feature a cross-section of classic automobiles exhibited by Island owners and some of the finest from private Northwest collectors. This year the “Featured Marque” will be Porsche. First and Second place awards will be made in 10 separate classes as well as an overall “Best of Show” award. While these awards will recognize some outstanding automobiles, everyone is encouraged to enter their vehicle and join in the fun. Summer in the San Juans, viewing unique cars, enjoying fine wine, with an event benefiting our community…….an unbeatable combination.

The Concours d’Elegance will solely benefit the Inter Island Medical Center through the Inter Island Healthcare Foundation* and the net proceeds will help purchase an X-ray digitizer. Last year the Concours d’Elegance proceeds funded initial ground work for a new ‘Critical Access Hospital’ on San Juan Island to replace our aging Medical Center.

*IRS 501(c)3 organization allowing tax exempt contributions for various aspects of the event.

General admission is free but a voluntary tax deductible donation of $10 is encouraged. The ‘Automobile Exhibitor’ entry fee of $30 includes a memento of the occasion and admission for two people. For those interested in displaying a car, please download the Registration Form on this page.

Best Cheeseburger In Friday Harbor?

DSC03539 (115k image)

It just may be the best hamburger in Friday Harbor, but there can be no doubt that at $5.00 it is the least expensive cheeseburger in town.

Members and their guests have been enjoining these huge cheeseburgers on Friday nights at the American Legion post in Friday Harbor, as volunteers cook them -and equally large hotdogs- on a BBQ, with toasted buns, and a table of everything one can think of to put on a hamburger or a hotdog.

Like all money spent at an American Legion post, the money goes back into the community in one form or another, so if you’re a member, or can come as a guest of a member (Legion, Women’s Auxiliary, or Sons of) then come join in. And that includes the kids too al long as they are on the back patio where all the eating is going on. Starts at 5:00 each Friday and goes until the food or the buyers are gone. Come join in.

SATURDAY, August 11, 9 to 2 - Huge Parking Lot Sale at the Mullis Center

Some organizations will have booths to earn money for their organizations. There will be furniture, tools, housewares, etc. This is one big sale, fun and fund raising event.

A delicious BBQ with hamburgers, kielbasa, turkeyburgers, etc.; and umor has it that there will be Krispy Kreme donuts!

Everyone welcome. And Bring money.
