Free Vision & Hearing Screenings At Market Place
The Lions Health Screening Unit (LHSU) will visit San Juan Island on March 30 & 31, 2007 from 10am to 4pm each day. The purpose is to screen the public for vision and hearing acuity, glaucoma and diabetes detection, and blood pressure screening.
Sponsored by the San Juan Lions Club, these screenings are available for free of charge. The LHSU is a program of the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight & Hearing, a 501©(3) charitable nonprofit organization founded in 1969 by Lions Clubs in the Northwest. The LHSU operates under the Lions motto “We Serve” and is staffed by volunteer health professionals and Lions Club members. Since 1997, this professionally equipped mobile unit has traveled throughout Washington and Northern Idaho providing vision, hearing, glaucoma, diabetes, and blood pressure screening to more than 30,000 people annually, including 25,000 school children.
The LHSU is able to keep its service free through the efforts of civic-minded volunteers, local Lions Club sponsorship, and the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight & Hearing. For more information, call Sally Browne (360-370-5711) or Stacie Baisch, Au.D. (360-298-1369).

Dinner And Auction To Benefit PTA
LUCK OF THE IRISH SPREADS THROUGH FRIDAY HARBOR ELEMENTARY - Dinner And Auction To Benefit FHES PTA And Playground Upgrade
Lads and lassies, their families and friends will be wearing green and giving the green on Friday, March 16. The Friday Harbor Elementary School PTA is holding a St. Patrick's Day Auction and Dinner inside the elementary school cafeteria and gym from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The PTA's biggest fundraiser of the year, the auction raises money for special events and activities at the school. The PTA board members are also hoping that this year enough will be raised to pursue improved playground equipment for the school."The play structure is twenty years old," said Co-President Kim Ott. "Like most things after twenty years it needs a good upgrade."
The evening's dinner includes a catered meal by Laurie and Tim of The Market Chef (Shepherd's Pie, soda biscuits, macaroni and cheese, and salad). For dessert, the school's 5th grade Bake Sale will feature gourmet cakes and home baked goodies. A limited number of dinner tickets are available and must be purchased in advance at the school for $10 per adult and $5 per child.
Guests do not need to purchase dinner tickets to attend the silent and live auctions, which will feature dozens of items donated by local businesses, including two roundtrip tickets on Kenmore Air, restaurant and hotel gift certificates, food and gift baskets, and stays in Mexico and at a Mt. Baker Ski Cabin.
While adults make their bids, children will be entertained and busy throughout the evening with craft activities, storytelling, and the return of Magic Biggers!

Relay is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbeque, dance, and take turns walking around a track relay-style to raise funds to fight cancer. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminaria around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors as well as friends and family members who have lost the battle.
If you wonder what it is like to participate, come to the Kickoff and talk to others. If you've been involved before, the Kickoff is a good time to reconnect with other relayers. For more information about this year's Relay visit www.sjirelay.org.
