09/14/2005: "SJ Island Rotary Club's Helps Katrina Relief"
There is no knowledge like local knowledge, and with thousands of Rotarians in southern Louisiana and Mississippi the relief efforts to the victims of Hurricane Katrina are well underway.
San Juan Island Rotary Club has elected to send all donations to Rotary District 6200 which will provide one-to-one assistance to families in New Orleans, LA, Biloxi, Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, McComb, Hattiesburg, MS and points in between.
Under the direction of Rotarian Joe Hidalgo, Disaster Relief Coordinator in southern Louisiana, storage facilities and staging areas for volunteers are operational. With an all volunteer workforce and no overhead, all donations will be directed to individuals and families.
Frequent updates on the relief effort will be a part of this partnership. Local Rotarian Tom Small is in Jackson, MS now and reporting back to the Rotary club.
Contributions may be made to the San Juan Island Rotary Club, and dropped off at the REMAX Real Estate office on Spring Street.
