By Mary Kalbert
Superintendent of the San Juan Island School District, Michael Soltman, is inducted into the San Juan Islands Rotary Club on Wednesday, February 23. His induction coincided with the 100th anniversary of Rotary International. Soltman is sponsored by Rotarians Diane Giesy and Jack McKenna.
His 22 years experience in public education in Washington State include training and experience in curriculum and instruction, special education, personnel, technology and educational leadership.
Soltman is a true believer that each student should be known. Recognition of an individual's identity and achievement is an important step in the challenges every student will encounter on their educational path.
High standards for performance by the faculty and staff are standard expectations, and he believes that this level of performance should be balanced with support for their professional development.
Additionally, Soltman leads the way in supporting the needs of every learner. Achievement by staff and students fosters a community spirit of collaboration that brings success to all children and their families.
