Local Union Supports Chris Wolf For Council

To the Voters of the Town of Friday Harbor:

The Public Service Workers of the Town of Friday Harbor, AFSCME Local 1849F, are pleased to endorse Chris Wolf for Town Council.

The Executive board and members of Local 1849F interviewed Chris Wolf at our September general meeting. Chris displayed a strong desire to serve our community. He exhibited leadership and a willingness to hear new ideas.

We commend Chris Wolf and the rest of the candidates for offering themselves as candidates for public office. We join with them in encouraging you to vote in this election.

Reader Supports Chris Wolf For Council

To the Editor:

Until now I have always made it a rule to not get involved in politics, but I must say that I am stunned that The Journal of the San Juan Islands would endorse Steve Wehrly over Chris Wolf for Town Council.

For years islanders have talked about the economic difficulties the younger generation has on this island and the need to get those folks involved in every aspect of island life. Now, at last, we have an eager young school teacher living with his family in an affordable home in the Salal neighborhood and running for Town Council. Endorsed by fellow educators, parents of students, longtime political pundits and even a Town union, Mr. Wolf is ready to learn and serve.

Meanwhile, Mr. Wehrly showed up late to the League of Women Voters' candidate forum. He stated publicly that he had been off the island during the previous month and would likely not be around much in the coming month due to his work as a lobbyist in Washington, DC. He also stated publicly in that forum that the Town Council job is "very part-time," and, although he said it is not in his budget at this time, he made it clear that he could easily hold the job with the town council while running for and serving as a state legislator. Is this the type of candidate we want on our Town Council?

In its endorsement, The Journal of the San Juan Islands commented that neither of the candidates has attended meetings of the Town Council in preparation for taking on the office. Presumably this is because Mr. Wehrly was lobbying for special interest groups while Mr. Wolf was teaching our middle school children.

I heartily support Chris Wolf for Town Council and look forward to his fresh perspective. He is the new blood this community desperately needs.

Chris Wolf For Town Council

Dear Editor,

Chris Wolf will make an excellent Town Councilor. Chris is energetic and eager to work on behalf of families who have chosen to make Friday Harbor their home. As a middle school teacher, Chris has daily contact with children in this town, and therefore has insights not only into their needs, but also the needs of their parents, many of whom make their living here. Chris is a good listener, a kind neighbor, and a responsible role model. I am pleased to support his candidacy for Town Council.

Sincerely,

Denice (Brown) Kulseth
Friday Harbor
