03/16/2006: "Let Me Refresh Your Memory"

An Open Letter to Kevin and Alan:

During your campaign you both promised the people that, if elected, you would represent ALL of the people of San Juan County, and not just the special interest groups. Given the recent discussions regarding accessory dwelling units (ADU'S) I find it necessary to remind you both of your promises.

The advisory vote by the people, mandated by 74% of the voters, made it very clear that they wanted accessory dwelling units to be allowed in our county. The recent proposal by the planning commission, which appears to be made up mostly of special interest members, does not comply with the wishes of the majority of the people. In fact the recent proposal dilutes drastically what is already allowed.

I implore you to keep your promise to the people and stand up and have the courage to do what the voters hoped you would do by their advisory vote. If you do not have the courage, then at least do nothing and let the court of appeals make their decision. I would also implore Bob Myhr to listen to the voters and support the wishes of the majority -and not the vocal and well funded minority- by doing the right thing. The PEOPLE have spoken and you all need to listen.

You promised you would.
