10/10/2005: "Reader Responds to Ferry Committee"
Editor:
I read with amusement what the SJ advisory council had to say about the ferry's: Advisors Urge NO on I-912
. During the meeting held at the Mullis Center the head of the ferry system promised that the food service would be back "Shortly". Has not happened!
Also brought up by me was the fact that the 2:40 sailing from Anacortes much of the time leaves FULL, while the other sailings use the larger capacity ferry's and have space available. He said he would look into this. Months later nothing has changed.
Please see the 12:35 sailing Anacortes-Lopez and the 1:35 sailing Lopez-Anacortes. It's the larger capacity boat that hold's about 160 cars and is never even half full.
What they are lacking is the understanding of the term "Capacity Utilization".
San Juan Island has the most vehicles and the most foot traffic and gets the poorest service.
Also, I brought up the issue of the 6 am sailing leaving Friday Harbor and spending 15-20 minutes wasting fuel tied up to Lopez rather then just loading and leaving. This past week while I was on this boat- business as usual.
NOTHING CHANGES!
They came up here and just gave us LIP SERVICE!
The entire committee representing the SJI should either resign or be asked to. They are nothing more then nice people incapable of doing the job!
