10/02/2017: "SJI EMT Of The Month -And Saves A Woman’s Life Too"
San Juan Island Emergency Medical Services Emergency Medical Technician Robin DelaZerda was named EMT of the month for September 2017. In addition to being a volunteer EMT, she's a county dispatcher in the Sheriff's Office, a volunteer EMT Association Treasurer and a mother.
In September, Robin saved the life of a 72-year-old woman dining at a local Friday Harbor restaurant.
She was at the Sheriff's Office and hadn't yet checked in when a call came in about a choking victim. She grabbed Deputy Zac Reimer and they raced to the restaurant where Robin successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver.
On a personal note: She has a busy household, with her children including a high school senior, a couple of dogs and a recently rescued King snake named Houdini due to his "great escapes."
