The Mainland has over 5,000 breweries, and now, finally, Friday Harbor has one of its own.

On Saturday, February 18, Friday Harbor Brewing Company opens the doors to its Brew House tasting room, where locals can sample a variety of small batch, hand crafted beers.

Many breweries call themselves “small batch” and “hand crafted”, but at the Brew House, “small batch” means literally one 15 gallon keg at a time, and “hand crafted” means that the grains were measured in pounds and ounces and stirred by hand.

There are over 75 different beer styles, with hundreds of recipes in each style, ranging from light bodied Lagers, to dark strong Brandywines and Stouts, as well as Belgian fruit beers, sour beers, and everything in between.

Bob Williams and Mike Close were both home brewers, and built this brewery as an extension of that hobby. Brewing beer should be as fun as tasting beer, and variety makes both pastimes even more fun. At this moment, the taps are Belgian Dubbell, Brown Ale, IPA, Newcastle, Porter, Stout, Kolsch, and Blonde. Next up will be a gluten free Porter, gluten free Stout, Belgian Raspberry, and an IPA.

The Brew House will be open Saturdays from 4:30 until 8:30, and in addition to the 8 taps of beer, offers peanuts and free popcorn. The Brew House is located just off Mullis Street, at the end of the lane past the Thrift House, next to Friday Harbor Marine. Their website is, and you can find them on Facebook at Friday Harbor Brewing Company.
