08/27/2012: "Gov. Orders Flags Lowered"
OLYMPIA ~ Gov. Chris Gregoire has directed that flags at all Washington state agency buildings be lowered to half-staff Tuesday, August 28th, in memory of U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Sean Carson. Carson was killed August 16th in a Black Hawk helicopter crash in Afghanistan. Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business on August 28th or first thing Wednesday morning, August 29th.
Carson’s commanding officer described him as a “talented and a dedicated combat-proven sailor. His commitment to his team and the mission was on full display every day. He has left a lasting legacy.”
Carson enlisted in the Navy in 1999 and graduated from boot camp at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
His other military assignments include Fleet Readiness Center Southwest Detachment in Point Mugu, Calif.; Patrol Squadron 4 in Kaneohe, Hawaii; Naval explosive disposal ordinance school at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.; and Training and Evaluation Unit 1 in San Diego.
Carson has received the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon (2), Battle Efficiency Ribbon (2), Good Conduct Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Carson is survived by his wife, one daughter, and his parents.
