06/07/2012: "3rd FH Airport Fly-In In July"

ig_PFH_2012_Fly-In-001 (44k image)Join the Port of Friday Harbor, volunteers, friends and family for a one-day celebration of aviation on San Juan Island.

On July 21, beginning at 10am and ending at 3, Friday Harbor Airport opens its doors to the community and the world beyond. Arriving by land, sea or air, admission to the third annual Friday harbor Airport Fly-in and Community Open House is free.

Browse the flight line of war birds, antiques, home-built aircraft and more. Several hangars will be open with displays and activities, including face painting and free gliders for the kids. Register to win a free plane or helicopter ride provided by local pilots.

Look to the sky for the popular Blackjack Squadron, with their formation arrival and landing. Keep your eyes skyward for antique, classic and military fly-bys. The only way to spend money will be for food, commemorative items and available plane rides.
Airport parking is free, and regular shuttle service to downtown happens throughout the show.

Aviation continues to be the San Juan Islands’ connection to the world. Friday Harbor is unique in that planes, pilots and passengers are vital to the community and the economy. Started by Roy Franklin, operating from an Island cow-pasture after WWII, Friday Harbor Airport has become one of Washington’s busiest airports, while maintaining its small-town feel and accessibility.
