10/18/2011: "Gregoire: Lower Flags On Wednesday"
Gov. Chris Gregoire has directed that flags at state agency buildings be lowered to half-staff Wednesday, Oct. 19th, in memory of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Nathan L. Wyrick, 34, of Enumclaw. Other government entities, citizens and businesses are encouraged to join in this recognition.
Sgt. Wyrick was killed Oct. 10 of injuries he suffered from small arms fire while serving in Afghanistan.
He joined the Army in 2006, received training at Fort Jackson in South, then to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, and from there transfer to Fort Lewis.
In September 2006 he was assigned to the 1oth Mountain Division, and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2008, and then as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in March of this year.
His decorations include the Combat Action Badge;Army Commendation medal; Army Achievement Medal; two Meritorious Unit Commendations: good Conduct Medal; the National Defense Service Medal; the Iraq Campaign Medal,; the Army Service Ribbon; the overseas Service Ribbon; five Certificates of Achievement; and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.
Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business Wednesday, or first thing Thursday morning, Oct. 20th.
