06/30/2011: "Art Market At Brickworks"

Plans are well underway for the opening of a weekly art market in Friday Harbor, the Brickworks Art Market. The market will feature local artists and musicians and will be held on Thursday afternoons from 5:00pm-8:00pm on the grounds of the historic Brickworks facility on Nichols Street.

This property was purchased by the San Juan County Agricultural Guild as a community center to house our local Farmers Market and to be used by organizations and individuals for events. ( Related story).

Actual startup date of the Brickworks Art Market is dependent upon completion of the

preparation of the grounds. The target date for the first market is the first week of August. In 2012, the art market is scheduled to run for approximately 10 weeks from June until Labor Day weekend.

According to Market Coordinator, Debbie Pigman, "We are excited to bring this event to the community and to our visitors, providing yet another island experience in Friday Harbor. With the new art market, we will now have Island Rec's Music on the Lawn on Wednesday evenings , the Brickworks Art Market on Thursday evenings and Music at the Port on Friday evenings. Our hope is that people will come to town for the market, and, before or after, shop in the stores….many stay open a little later during the summer… and then settle down for a nice meal at one of our great restaurants."

Volunteers are needed to help with the coordination of the market: promotion/signage, entertainment coordinator, set up-take down coordinator, etc.

To obtain guidelines and an application for vendors or to volunteer to help out, contact Debbie Pigman, Brickworks Art Market Coordinator at dpigman1234@yahoo.com or 360 472-0216.
