05/17/2011: "Lifeguarding Course"
An American Red Cross Lifeguarding course will be offered through San Juan Island Fitness beginning on Sunday, May 22 and continuing through mid June.
Class times are tentatively planned for Sundays from 2-6pm, Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30-8:30, with some scheduling flexibility to allow for Memorial Day and end-of school year commitments. Cost of the course is $150 and includes over 30 hours of instruction, pool access, on-line course materials and upon successful completion and passing of written and skills testing, Red Cross certification cards in Lifeguarding, first aid and CPR.
To take this course, participants must be at least 15 years of age, and able to swim 300 yards without stopping (6 laps at SJIF pool), and perform the following: jump into deep water, swim 20 yards, retrieve a brick and swim 20 yards with the brick and exit the pool.
