The search for a SJI School District principal suffered a set back when one of the two finalists changed his mind and dropped out of the running.
Joe Landerman withdrew as a candidate for the FHES principal position, citing personal reasons related to his his doctorate work.
San Juan Island School District will continue with candidate Denise Wheeler’s visitation on Wednesday, May 11, and the public is asked to "join us for the community forum from 6:00 - 7:00 pm in the Friday Harbor Elementary School library".
What this means for Denise Wheeler's candidacy is not known at this time. The only person authorized to address the issue is Superintendent Rick Thomson, but he was not available for comment on Thursday when the press release was issued, and has not returned phone calls..
Denise Wheeler has a variety of leadership experiences, including elementary principal and program director. She has served in Wyoming and as a Principal at Highland Park School, in Havre, Montana. SJISD reported that Denise’s "experience, dedication to students, and personable manner earned her high marks with the search committee".
