04/27/2011: "Is “Civil Discourse” Off Course?"
The public is invited to a panel discussion Monday in Friday Harbor on the topic of “Civil Discourse: ARE the times A-Changing?"
The League of Women Voters San Juans are sponsoring the discussion for their monthly membership meeting Monday, May 2nd at noon in the Friday Harbor library on Guard St.
A five member panel of experts will include David Kennedy, noted author and historian, Barbara Kline, superintendent of the Orcas school district, Lenore Bayuck, a Psychosocial Clinical Nurse Specialist, Lynne Hobbs, a professional facilitator, and Jack Cory, editor of the online Island Guardian newspaper will offer their observations after which attendees will be encouraged to participate in the moderated discussion.
The topic is not "How To Have a Civil Discussion Workshop," but rather a discussion of what may happen if a lack of civility pervades a society, where it comes from and where a lack of civility may take us. Are we truly in uncivil times? And if so, where exactly are we in that evolution.
