08/04/2010: "Rawson On Treaty Rights"
Kit Rawson, Conservation Science Manager with the Tulalip Tribes and San Juan County Marine Resources Committee (MRC) member, made a presentation to the MRC on Treaty Rights and Tribal Resource Management,
The presentation was part of a regular scheduled MRC meeting at the Community Meeting Room d
Mr. Rawson's talk included the history of the tribes before and after European contact, the Stevens treaties between the tribes and the United States and the interpretation of the meaning of those treaties by the federal courts.
He will discussed the tribes as natural resource managers and co-managers with the State of Washington today.
MRC meetings are held from 8:30-10:30 AM on the first and third Wednesdays of each month in the Islanders Bank Community Meeting Room. Special meetings are held occasionally on Lopez and Orcas Islands. MRC meetings are open to the public.
