05/17/2010: "Colton Harris-Moore On The Move?"
The U.S. Coast Guard Sent a helicopter up on Sunday (5-16-10) in response to a report of a 30-foot cabin cruiser found floating with no occupants near Gedney Island, which is near Camano Island, which -by the way- is where Colton, the "Barefoot Burglar" is from.
There is of course some speculation that perhaps the Colton may be connected to the case, given that he has a history of stealing not only airplanes, but boats, as a way of getting from one place to another.
Add to that, the news reports that a boat was stolen from a private dock on the south end of San Juan island -after the house was broken into- just prior to the theft of a boat on Lopez, and there is some connecting of the dots going on. The Seattle Times reports that the boat taken from San Juan was found near Lopez on Friday, and the boat the Coast Guard was looking at was reported taken from Lopez on Saturday, found drifting on Sunday near Camano Island
But then again, there is at this point no reason to think Colton is involved. Island County Sheriff's Department assumed control of the investigation of the boat found in Island County, and SJC Sheriff's department is investigating the two boat thefts that occurred here.
There is at this point little doubt that law enforcement has Colton's DNA on file, and will be looking for any evidence that can tie Colton to these new thefts.
