04/25/2010: "Fund Raising Class At SVC SJI Campus"

Skagit Valley College is please to announce a new advanced fund raising class called “The Next Steps” to be offered at Skagit Valley College’s, San Juan Island campus on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The class will be taught by Bob Schwartzberg. Over the past few years, Bob has taught a fund raising class for Skagit Valley College called “Hands on Fund Raising in the Real World.” This class has filled up quickly, and the feedback has been excellent. Many of the students requested that an advance class be developed. As a result, this new advanced class was created to enable students to move their fund raising skills to a higher level and benefit the organizations with which they are involved.

This new class was designed to meet the needs of those volunteers and staff of the more than 200 non profit organizations in the San Juan Islands who have either already taken Bob’s class, have attended one of his workshops, or have at least one year of experience in fund raising for small non profit organizations.

Among the areas to be focused on will be developing an annual fund raising campaign, cultivation and solicitation of major gifts, the use of gift range charts, planned giving, communications and capital campaigns.

Instructor Schwartzberg will be using his 30 years of experience as a successful fund raiser including 8 1/2 years as director of development at the UW’s Friday Harbor Labs, and 15 years of teaching fund raising for the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy where he is a senior associate and faculty member.

Students in this class need to bring samples of their organization’s fund raising materials and, if available, an outline of the organization’s annual fund raising plan.

The class will be limited to 18 students.

To register for this class, call Skagit Valley College at 360-378-3220
