04/07/2010: "Good At Schedules?"
If your good at understanding and working with schedules -and if you live on SJI- the SJC Ferry Advisory Committee (FAC) would like to talk to you. The FAC works with ferry schedules, and have learned one change in a schedule can impact the rest of the schedule.
7-year FAC veteran Robert DeGavre was the FAC "Puzzle Master" when it came to schedules, but he has resigned from the FAC, and so a replacement is now needed.
The committee works with the State Department of Transportation and the San Juan County Council to provide input to the state on ferry schedules. The adoption of a new schedule can affect everything from scholastic sporting events to commerce.
The Ferry Advisory Committee generally meets once per month and occasionally holds special meetings to deal with urgent matters. Members serve 4 year terms; the term of the open position expires in December of this year. Candidates for the vacant position must reside on San Juan Island.
Citizens interested in serving on the Ferry Advisory Committee (or any of the County’s many advisory committees) are encouraged to contact the County Council’s office at (360) 378 2898.
