02/24/2010: "Ranker On SJI National Monuments Proposal"

State Senator Kevin Ranker has responded to a request from The Island Guardian for a comment on the leaked Internal Draft of a proposal to consider the San Juan Islands a National Monument (see Related Story) by noting "My understanding is that tourism has significantly increased in some towns where monuments have been declared. It could increase tourism and create jobs. To be clear, I am not saying this is something we should welcome off-hand, but I will reserve judgment until I understand what the proposal entails."
