(L to R: Rick Thompson & SJISD Board Chair David McCauley)
The San Juan County School District has hired Rick Thompson as District Superintendent. He will take over from Interim Superintendent Walt Wegener in July. Wegener was hired as an Interim Superintendant for the 2009-2010 school year.
Wegener had also applied for the permanent position, but by a unanimous vote this week, the school board selected Thompson, who they say had been one of their top choices after Michael Soltman resigned as superintendent last year. Board Chair David McCauley said “Thompson was recommended by Soltman and consultant John Fotheringham, but withdrew his application when Lynden [school district] pushed to keep him.”
