10/21/2009: "$100K+ Pledged For SJISD"
The annual Phone-A-Thon for the SJ Public Schools Foundation on Monday raised over $100K; $50,000 of which to be matched, dollar for dollar, by Kings Market & Friday Harbor Marketplace. But incoming Foundation president Lisa Anderson said “We are on track to meet that goal, but need everyone who pledged Monday night to send in their contributions to be eligible for the full $50,000 contribution.
Volunteers called Island families to invite them to contribute the goal of at least $100,000.00 The money will be used only for textbooks and equipment for the SJI school district.
The Phon-A-Thon is one of several projects that the Foundation puts on every year where 100% of the proceeds are donated to the classrooms of the public elementary, middle and high schools. “This is an amazing community and the support for the education of our children is inspiring to me,” said district superintendent Walt Wegener.
The Foundation would like to thank all who have donated as well as extend their gratitude to all the volunteers who worked so hard on the successful Phon-A-Thon. Anyone who did not receive a call Monday evening and wants to help make sure that the full matching grant is obtained, you may send your donation to the San Juan Public Schools Foundation, P.O. Box 1452, Friday Harbor, WA 98250, or online at www.sjpsf.org .
