10/21/2009: "Asotin County?"
You don't know where Asotin County Wa is, huh? It is hard up against the Idaho line, just north of Oregon, and it may also be on your return ballot envelope.
The County is asking everyone to check their return envelope before mailing in their ballot, just to be sure it is addressed to San Juan, and not Asotin, County.
The Elections office has learned that some return ballot envelopes addressed to Asotin County may have been mixed in with San Juan County return envelopes in a shipment received from the printer.
A voter on Orcas called the elections office and reported they had received an Asotin envelope in their San Juan County ballot packet.
If you do find an incorrect envelope, you have three choices.
o You may call (360-378-3357) and request a replacement envelope.
o You may change the address on the envelope you have (the correct address is PO Box 638, Friday Harbor, WA, 98250).
o Or you can drop the envelope into a ballot drop box and not worry about the address.
Ballot drop boxes are located in front of the County Courthouse in Friday Harbor, at the Orcas Senior Center, and at the Lopez Fire Station in the Village.
If you have already mailed your ballot, no need to worry. Asotin County has been contacted and said they will forward any wayward envelopes to San Juan County. The postmark determines whether a vote counts, so the delay in delivery will not compromise any wayward votes.
