07/27/2009: "Update: Tragedy On Lopez"
A wonderful summer day for a jog, a bicycle ride, and a car ride, became a nightmare when 26 year old Paul John Jaholowsky of Abbotsford Canada was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a car while he was jogging on Lopez Sound Road.
After striking Mr. Jaholowdsky, the car then struck and injured a 7 year old girl bicycling with her family.
The car then went into an embankment, spun, went back into the embankment, resulting in the 17year old passenger striking the windshield and then thrown out of the passenger window of the car.
The passenger is in the hospital, and the driver has been released to the custody of his parents
The 1974 Nova “with a large V-Eight engine in it- was owned and driven by a 15 year old male, operating with a learners permit. Sheriff Bill Cumming said evidence at the scene indicates the car may have been traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the accident.
Both the driver and the passenger are Lopez residents.
