06/29/2009: "Children’s Theatre Workshops in July"
The San Juan Community Theatre is offering three summer workshops for children at its Performing Arts Resource Center (PARC) at 70 Saltspring Drive off Beaverton Valley Road.
Each workshop costs $125 per child; register at the San Juan Community Theatre Box Office (378-3210) or on-line at www.sjctheatre.org. Scholarships are available for students who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Each class is limited to 15 students.
”Story Plays Come Alive”
WHO: K-3rd grade children
WHEN: Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 10, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
WHAT: Tifni Twitchell directs magical adventure stories played out with costumes, props, fabrics and puppets…lots of musical gibberish and madcap dance, encouraging individual expression in a nurturing environment.
“The Shakespeare Code: Cracking a Classic Mystery for a Modern World”
WHO: Children, ages 9 to 11
WHEN: Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
WHAT: Teacher and actor Alex Robertson helps students to see that Shakespeare's words are codes and clues for action--sort of like an Elizabethan form of text-messaging.
“From Story to Stage”
WHO: Children, ages 12 to 14
WHEN: Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24,
12:30 pm to 3:30 pm
WHAT: How do we bring stories to life? Actress Sylvie Davidson will empower the imaginations of student actors, breathing new life into their performances. The workshop culminates in a group-devised final performance for family and friends.
