04/16/2009: "Council Wants Discussion On Boater Fine, but…"
The case of the boater potentially fined $5K for not checking in correctly has the County Council wondering about the facts and both sides of the story. Two main concerns expressed by the council on Tuesday were the possible negative impacts on tourism if Custom’s agents are in fact rude, and is there a second side to the story.
It was decided to invite the local Chief of Customs to come and explain the incident to the Council, but Chief Barry Clement said that as of Thursday he had not been contacted, but would be happy to do an outreach with the Council, He would not, however, be able to discuss a specific case with the council, so the discussion may become a dance around the specific issue, and only proceed in broad generalities of policy.
In the meantime, Letters On letters are coming in on both sides of the case in point.
