02/15/2009: "RH Derby Results!"
Roche Harbor has announced the results of the sixth Annual Salmon Classic Invitational held Feb 5-7, 2009. A total of 100 boats with 344 anglers aboard took to the calm & sunny waters for their chance at $20,000 in cash prizes.
A total of 115 fish were caught and after weighing-in, Shannon Terrell, Bellingham, WA took home $10,000 for his 1st place salmon of 18 lbs 6 oz.; Wayne Logsdon, Mt Vernon, WA hooked the second place fish -16 lbs 1 oz - for $5000; Bret Thurman, Orcas Island, WA finished 3rd with 15 lbs .15 oz -for $1500;
Craig Hougen, Bellingham, WA snagged $2000 with his 9 lb. 3 oz fish in the Mystery Fish drawing. Best Boat Total Weight went to Craig Hougen; Tim Melton; Mike Hougen; and Bill Melton with a total weight of 84 lbs and a prize of $1,500.
The youngest angler in the derby was Ty Anderson from Friday Harbor, WA at age 6 who was in his first Roche Harbor Derby with his father. Chuck Payne from Friday Harbor won the drawing for an entry into the 2010 Roche Harbor Derby.
Roche Harbor Resort is the sponsor of this drawing in memory of Rich Misdom, valued at $750.00 The beloved Roche Harbor resident and avid angler was always the first to register in the previous derbies. In addition to the cash awards, over $8000 in give away prizes were drawn, donated by industry vendors & retailers.
