12/05/2008: "Food Bank Receives 225 Turkeys"
The local Food Bank was the beneficiary of generosity this year when they received 225 donated turkeys. The turkeys came from Kings Market in Friday Harbor, and they were donated by customers who contributed their turkey punch cards to the Friday Harbor Food Bank (360 378-4640).
For years Kings Market has given turkey credits to customers food purchases by allowing them to have a "Turkey Card." The card is punched with a credit amount toward a turkey when they check out with their purchase. The program has been very popular, and more and more people have been saying, "Punch the Food Bank card", instead of their own card.
Kings Market sent a Letter to the Editor thanking the community for making the donations, stating they "would like to thank all of our customers who contributed their turkey punch cards to the Friday Harbor Food Bank. Because of you we were able to give the food bank 225 turkeys this year compared to 140 last year."
They sent out a special thanks to, "Theresa, Sharon, Abe and gang for their contribution to helping us raise money for the food bank with our Santa pictures. An extra thank you to Kate Schuman who volunteered her gift of song with some Christmas music to raise donations also for the food bank."
