09/23/2008: "United Way Annual Day Of Caring"

On Wednesday, September 24th, United Way of San Juan County will celebrate its 3rd annual Day of Caring and encourages your business to be part of this important countywide event.

Day of Caring reminds us that there are many different ways of giving; from donating blood, to spending a few hours helping someone less fortunate, to making a difference through contributions to community organizations.

Volunteers may participate in any part of the event, scheduled from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. This year on San Juan Island, Day of Caring volunteers will be working with the San Juan Trails Committee on a quarter mile of trail on Cattle Point Road.

In addition, volunteers will be participating in our third “Repair Affair”, assisting seniors with small projects such as weeding and yard clean-up. How can you get involved?

1. Encourage one or more employees to participate. Because we have 501(c)3 status, wages paid to employees volunteering may be a tax deductible expense to your company. Please check with your accountant to determine eligibility.

2. Donate project related supplies such as bottled water, work gloves, lip balm or sunscreen.

3. Help underwrite the cost of other Day of Caring supplies or volunteer recognition items

We are looking forward to growing our partnership with the business community on this great event. Businesses will receive recognition on United Way of San Juan County’s website and other publications. We anticipate widespread coverage of Day of Caring by our local media.
