09/12/2008: "Beard Growing Contest!"

Join the fun of celebrating the Town of Friday Harbor’s Centennial Celebration by joining Island Rec’s Beard Growing Contest!

Participants must register with Island Rec or Windjammer Barbershop on Friday September 12 or Saturday September 13 at Island Rec’s booth at the Farmers Market or Windjammer’s Barbershop.

Participants must being clean shaven, although mustaches are permitted and will grow their beard till the judging that takes place at the Town’s Birthday Party on February 9, 2009 A photo will be taken at time of registration and will be on display at Island Rec and Windjammer Barbershop.

Participants will be given an official Beard Growing Contest Button to where during the contest. “The button will explain to others why you might be looking so scraggly” reports Sally Thomsen, contest organizer.

Awards will be presented in the following seven categories: Blackest; Whitest; Reddest; Longest; Wildest and two Judge’s Choice. Generous gift certificates have been donated by Downriggers; Front Street Ale House; China Pearl; Bella Luna; Haley’s and the Peppermill.
