Island Stage Left presents "Talley's Folly" by Lanford Wilson. Set in a dilapidated boathouse towards the end of the second world war, two social outcasts - a German Jewish accountant and the daughter of a wealthy and bigoted Missouri family find each other on a summer evening by the river and reveal their secret fears.

Krista Strutz and Daniel Mayes pair off in this enchanting romance playing Thursday through Sunday - April 24 to 27 at 7:30 at the Fairgrounds on Argyle in the 4H building.

It's a lovely warm, funny and moving story set in Missouri in 1942. The cast is comprised two characters - Matt Friedman, a Jewish accountant and the object of his desire, Sally Talley, the daughter
of a wealthy and bigoted business family. Daniel Mayes and Krista Strutz, who performed "Educating Rita" last year, will play the two characters.

This bitter-sweet romance is a testament to the triumph of love over fear and the struggle to overcome tragedy with courage, humor and hope.

ig_Tom_Doenges-1 (45k image)The Los Angeles Music Awards ceremony is being held tonight (Thursday) and one of our locals has received two nominations for awards for two songs.

Some know Tom Doenges as the computer guy that owns Computer San Juans, but not unlike many in the San Juan County, there is more to the story. Tom is also an accomplished musician and song writer, and tonight two songs he co-wrote with Dick Hieronymus could win an award.

One song is called “The shutup Song” and the other is entitled ‘All Tied Down’. Either or both songs may receive an award and will be telecasted live. Both songs are in the Country Division. The two songs are listed on Tom’s other website at www.broadjam.com/tomhenry, where he is know by his ASCAP writer name as “Tom Henry”.

THURSDAY, 7 DECEMBER, 6:30pm -PELINDABA FILM CLUB

ig_Light_Rreverebce-1 (67k image)
After the Thanksgiving/snowstorm break, Peleindaba resumes their film club evenings with a showing of this award-winning documentary, narrated by Peter Coyote and originally broadcast on the PBS series Point of View (P.O.V.).

Three geographic locations, each with compelling reasons for Americans to visit but for very different reasons: Devils Tower in Wyoming, the Colorado Plateau in the Southwest, and Mt. Shasta in Northern California. To the Native American Lakota, Hopi and Wintu peoples, each of these places has a special cultural and religious significance and has been treasured and protected by them for centuries. To the descendants of much later immigrants to the United States, these same places are valued primarily for their recreational or economic potential.

The film dramatically brings into sharp focus the tension between these two "points of view" and highlights yet another slice of the complex relationship that has characterized this ongoing clash of cultures.

DIRECTOR: Christopher McCleod(2001 - Rated NR) Film showing (77 mins) commences 6:30 pm, followed by discussion. Film Club evenings are presented without admission charge and are made possible by the community's continuing patronage of the cafe. (Pelindaba will also be open until 7 on Thursdays in December.)
