THURSDAY, 7 DECEMBER, 6:30pm -PELINDABA FILM CLUB

After the Thanksgiving/snowstorm break, Peleindaba resumes their film club evenings with a showing of this award-winning documentary, narrated by Peter Coyote and originally broadcast on the PBS series Point of View (P.O.V.).
Three geographic locations, each with compelling reasons for Americans to visit – but for very different reasons: Devils Tower in Wyoming, the Colorado Plateau in the Southwest, and Mt. Shasta in Northern California. To the Native American Lakota, Hopi and Wintu peoples, each of these places has a special cultural and religious significance and has been treasured and protected by them for centuries. To the descendants of much later immigrants to the United States, these same places are valued primarily for their recreational or economic potential.
The film dramatically brings into sharp focus the tension between these two "points of view" and highlights yet another slice of the complex relationship that has characterized this ongoing clash of cultures.
DIRECTOR: Christopher McCleod(2001 - Rated NR) Film showing (77 mins) commences 6:30 pm, followed by discussion. Film Club evenings are presented without admission charge and are made possible by the community's continuing patronage of the cafe. (Pelindaba will also be open until 7 on Thursdays in December.)
