Which matters most: the years that keep us apart, or the moments that bring us together?
The answer may make you laugh … and cry in San Juan Community Theatre's production of Marvin's Room. The award-winning work by Scott McPherson will receive a preview performance Friday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m., and continue with six more performances through March 25.

The story of estranged sisters who are reunited by a family health crisis, this critically acclaimed play is directed by Lynne Mercer. The sisters are portrayed by Pat Rishel and Therese Finn. Rishel's character has been caring for an invalid father (Roger McNew) and an aging aunt (Jacki Altier), while Finn's has single-handedly raised two sons (August McKenna and Zach Milkis). Various doctors and other characters are played by Bob Chambers, Shannon Kelley, Seanene Kennedy and Lin Pearson.

The focus of Marvin's Room is coming to terms with the consequences of one's actions and using the healing power of love. It reunites the sisters, and restores the relationship between a mother and son. Striking a delicate balance between humor and drama, this story poignantly illustrates the undeniable strength of family and the curative powers of hope and sacrifice.

Set design for the production is by Don McLaskey, with lighting by David Meiland and costumes by Gretchen Gubelman. The production is co-sponsored by Petro San Juan and Rock Island Technology Solutions.

Tickets for the preview performance (and a Bargain Night on March 23) are discounted at $12 for Adults, $6 for Student Reserved. Evening performance on March 17, 18, 24 and 25 are $16 for Adults, $8 for Student Reserved. The March 19 matinee is at 5:00 pm with tickets at $14 for Adults, $7 for Student Reserved. $5 Student RUSH is available one hour before any performance, except March 17 (opening night). A private donor has made provision for free tickets to anyone needing financial assistance to attend a Theatre event. The SJCT Box Office is open Tuesday-Friday, 11-4, Saturdays 11-2, and one hour before any performance. Call 360-378-3210, or go to www.SanJuanCommunityTheatre.org.
