02/13/2006: "New Wireless Internet Access Available"

A new, high speed fixed wire-less broadband service has been launched by Rock Island Technology Solutions. Mike Greene, Owner/CEO of Rock Island announced today. Named "Canopy Broadband Wireless", the product is built by Motorola and will allow most of San Juan County to have high speed Internet without the need for telephone wiring. Rock Island has been testing the equipment since the fall of 2005.

Canopy's proprietary wireless is not prone to signal interruption from weather or other wireless systems in use. Since it is not dependent on the local telephone company for service, an active telephone line is not required. As a result, Rock Island customers will have a dependable and unshared connection to the internet with unparalleled customer service - a hallmark of Rock Island services for over 12 years.

"Rock Island selected the Canopy product for its superiority over other wireless solutions," Greene adds. "It's state-of-the-art wireless technology, with significant improvements over older, line-of-sight products". Motorola products are known for their reliability and superior performance.

The decision to partner with Motorola was based on deployments of Motorola by thousands of ISPs in many countries. In other parts of the United States, Canopy has been successful where the existing infrastructure has been inadequate or wasn't cost effective for development by cable or utility companies.

"With Canopy we will be able to provide a secure high speed Internet connection throughout the majority of the county – a great benefit to both home and office, even to customers who have not been eligible for other types of high-speed products. Over the past twelve years Rock Island has worked towards this goal: to be the county's leader in computer technologies and Internet access. We will continue this tradition by providing a cost effective and reliable Internet connection."

Canopy can be installed quickly and works with any computer system or network. With three different connection speeds of 512Kbs, 1Mbs and a 2Mbs, customers will be able to download even the largest data file rapidly. Rock Island anticipates installing Canopy equipment beginning in February. An antenna
