10/01/2017: "New License Plate Honoring SJC?"
( Winning design: Evening Passage by Nancy Spaulding)
If the Terrestrial Managers Group and the Madrona Institute have their way the winning design for a proposed new Washington State license plate will be approve by the state legislature, but before that can happen 3,500 state residents have to agree it is a good idea, and the legislature have vote on it. One may safely assume San Juan County alone will be able to generate that many in short order.
State Senator Ranker plans to submit the application and signatures to the legislature. So far close to 2000 signatures have been acquired, and more sign-up sheets are made available at various events in the county, but one can also sign online by clicking HERE.
The point of such plates -and there are many to choose from- is to provide funding for a designated cause, in the instant case the extra money paid to have a plate is proposed to fund grant funding for the conservation and stewardship of natural, agricultural, historic and cultural resources in the San Juan Islands. Nancy Spaulding will receive the first plate: SJ012SJ; were not sure why it would not be SJ001SJ, but sure there is a good reason.
