Atty General Rob McKenna, candidate for Washington Governor, Dan Matthews, candidate for US Congress and John Swapp, candidate for Washington Senate met with San Juan County leaders and residents Saturday on a full day tour of San Juan County.

McKenna, who is currently the Attorney General of Washington, and running of governor took time out to meet with SJC members Lovel Pratt and Howard Rosenfeld, who gave him feed back on what the County priorities are. all of which McKenna said were deserving of his support

After McKenna had listened to a list of priorities for the nearly an hour, Mayor Lacher politely asked what his priority was for Washington State. He quickly responded" "Education." He then added "education and job" should be the two state priorities.

McKenna was not the only one to show up Saturday, also making the rounds was Dan Matthews, candidate for US Congress and John Swapp, candidate for the Washington Senate.

Business and Farmer’s Market visits gave the candidates knowledge of the difficulty in San Juan County’s present tourist based seasonal economy.

All of the candidates discussed ways to streamline business practices and limit government interference.

“Island Life” was experienced and enjoyed, highlighted by an evening cruise through the county’s beautiful islands.

San Juan County Republicans will host candidates McKenna, Matthews and Swapp again at the Red Barn Event August 25th on San Juan Island. Candidates Senator Michael Baumgartner, Dr. Art Coday, Bill Finkbeiner, Bill Watkins and Kim Wyman are also invited to this year’s Red Barn Event.
