04/26/2012: "Dollars For Scholars Group Honored"
The Dollars For Scholars-San Juan Island (DFS-SJI) program has been chosen as the “Regional Chapter of the Year.”
Dollars For Scholars “allows every student the opportunity to qualify for a scholarship to use toward their higher education, including trade schools, just by their participation of giving personal time and effort for the benefit of the San Juan Island community.”
DFS-SJI provides scholarships to graduating San Juan Island seniors who have completed a minimum of 80 hours of volunteer community service during their high school career. These scholarships are not based upon grades, but solely upon the student’s volunteer efforts to make our own community a better place to live.
The notification of the recognition stated: “Your energy and dedication for the Dollars for Scholars mission has literally changed the lives of students in your community and region.”
Qualifying as a Regional Chapter of the Year is more than a pat on the back, it comes with monetary award, and advances the San Juan Island group to the select list for consideration as the National Chapter of the Year award.
