06/12/2011: "Costs Cutting Patrol Cars"

( New patrol car for Lopez? )
Under Sheriff Joh Zerby is known for many things, not the least of which is his well developed sense of humor, and seeing Island Guardian’s little 8 foot long Mercedes Smart car (the “staff car”) parked in front of the court house each week as Editor Jack Cory attended county council meetings provided inspiration for the above photo.
While Cory was in the Council meeting Zerby enlisted the aid of County/Superior Court Clerk Joan White to help produce the photo above, and then sent off the photo in an email to the deputies stating: “I have finally ordered new cars. We’ll start by replacing the Lopez cars with these.”
Law enforcement officers with a sense of humor is, we think, a good thing,
