11/09/2010: "Lending A Hand To Abe"

Shoppers at the Market Place in Friday Harbor know Abe Gutierrez as the always friendly and willing to offer advice and lend a hand guy in the produce department, but Abe recently underwent surgery on his foot, and as a result has been out of work for over two months.

While medical insurance has covered some expenses, there are still expenses that need attention, and so a fund raiser was organized for last Saturday at the SJI Yacht Club.

The evening began with a prime rib dinner, and entertainment provided by Kate Schuman, followed by the band Noise Complaint; and Kira Sable's version of "I Got You Abe" was the big right-on hit with Abe and the crowd. Doug Bison was, as always, the ever entertaining and irrepressible Emcee.

As for the funding, it was kicked off with a $25.00 donation per person for the event, and ab after dinner silent auction of 30 items, including lodging and spa at Roche Harbor, a round of golf at SJ Golf Club, rain gear and a smoker from King’s Marine, to name but a few of the items that helped raise some money for Abe.
