ig_Tim_Blanchard-001 (35k image)Tim Blanchard is an attorney who lives on Orcas Island, and is a homeowner who has closely following the CAO (Critical Areas Ordinance) review and update that has been underway for the last several years in San Juan County.

Blanchard will be a guest speaker Tuesday at the San Juan Island Grange, where he will offer some observations and perspective on the question “What is a Critical Areas Ordinance?”

And he will raise and discuss the following additional questions :

Why is it important?
Who is going to be affected?
What is required and what is not?
What is still unclear? What are fundamental policy choices facing the County Council?
Where are we now? What may happen next? And
What can you do to protect your property rights and our future in San Juan County?

The format for the Tuesday event is a dinner and speaker:

Date: Tues. February 2, 2010, Time: 5:30 pm at the San Juan Island Grange Hall

Agenda:
5:30 Dinner
Lasagna

6:10pm - Introductions

Tim is an Orcas Island homeowner who has been working with Common Sense Alliance and CAPR to assure proper respect for property rights in the consideration of additional environmental and development regulation in a Critical Areas Ordinance for San Juan County. The County Council recently decided to put our review of these issues on the right track by focusing on fundamental questions first.

Even if we may not know all of the answers, understanding the key questions is essential to effective public participation regarding these important policy decisions. Asking questions should be the first step in protecting our environment, our people, our economy, our community, and our way of life in the beautiful San Juan Islands.
