02/01/2010: "2010 Violet Richardson Award Winner"
Diana Eisenhauer was honored at the January 13 Soroptimist meeting as the winner of the 2010 Violet Richardson Award.
Diana, better known as "Nana" to her friends and family, is a junior at Friday Harbor High School and works as a volunteer tutor in the Friday Harbor Middle School After School Study Club. Nana started tutoring as a middle school student, helping children in the Friday Harbor Elementary School Study Club. Because she received tutoring help herself in elementary school, she noted that "it really made a difference in how I do in school today."
Nana finds tutoring a very rewarding experience and is happy to give back to the community by making that same difference in other children's lives. "I want them to know that they are worth my time, and they deserve to understand things, just like everyone else."
The Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award is given to a young woman, 14 to 17 years old, who performs outstanding volunteer services in her community.
Violet Richardson (Ward) was president of first Soroptimist club in 1921. The VR Award committee members this year were Lenore Bayuk, Marty Huleatte and Laura Tuttle with non-voting chair, Joyce Sobel.
Congratulations to Diana!
