01/29/2010: "County Real Estate Sales Volume Drops 31% -Which Is An Improvement!"

San Juan County has weathered past national recessions better than most parts of the country, but even here the number of sales in the county has dropped -that’s the bad news, the good news is a 31% drop is an improvement over last year.
According to the recent study by Merri Ann Simonson, an associate broker with Coldwell Banker San Juan Islands, Inc.: “the sales volume for the real estate market on San Juan Island was $66,069,632 which is only 3.7% less active when compared to year 2008. This is a terrific improvement over 2008 when San Juan Island’s volume was down 53% from 2007.”
Simonson’s research indicated that San Juan Island faired better than the rest of the county: “San Juan Island is in the best shape at a 3.7% decrease; Orcas experienced a 46% decrease; Lopez had a 54% decrease, and the other islands were down 18.8%.
