12/25/2009: "Black Ice Hazard Continues"

(Christmas day accident at top of West Valley Road on SJI)
Vehicle accidents are continuing to be a problem due to ice on the roads. In the last few days accidents ( Related Story) have resulted in injuries requiring medical treatment; including a van (photo above) that lost control at the top of West Valley Road and ended up against a tree withing feet of a pond.
Ice is remaining on some roads that are shaded by trees through out the day. While county sanding trucks are doing their best, there are still unexpected patches of ice on sections of roads that are -for the most part- dry.
