10/29/2009: "A Local Giveaway"
Saturday, November 7th, Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor is holding their second annual Great Island Give Away.
This community event was thought up as a way to promote recycling as well as helps those in need. In these tough economic times, this event offers the opportunity to renew, refresh, recycle and exchange items and ideas in a social setting. Gather up five of your good, clean, functional items that you no longer need or want, and in exchange, while taking home other things that you do need or want.
Community item donations will be accepted between 10:00 and 11:00 am. Coffee with homemade cookies will be available during the social/drop off hour, but you can certainly drop off your items and return for the give away if you don’t wish to hang around.
Keep in mind that any items you are dropping off must be in good condition, clean and working. Computers, TV’s, electronics, clothing or shoes will not be accepted. Some ideas for donations; kitchen equipment, such as mixers, toasters, waffle irons, gardening items, like pots and tools, art pieces, office supplies or school supplies like backpacks or calculators, and of course books.
At 11:00 am the event, and exchanges, begin. People will then take items in exchange for items they brought. Persons who have nothing to donate will not be denied entrance. People without items to donate will be asked to make a small monetary contribution to help defray our costs for space rental. So, look in your garage, attic, living room, kitchen and closet for something fun to recycle with other islanders. For more information about Soroptimist please visit: www.sifri.org.
