07/30/2009: ""Holy Cow!" Plus A Dead Bull"
The recent electrical storm that passed over the county last weekend is the prime suspect in the death of a bull and a cow on San Juan Island.
Richard Lawson said he went out to one of his fields after the storm and found a bull and cow down, and dead. Lawson said they were down in a way that suggested they may have been dead before they hit the ground. “They were so close together,” he said “they were almost touching, and the bull still had a mouth full of grass.”
Lawson said he believed they were killed by lightning, however not by a direct strike; he said he had no other explanation or evidence for the kills. With a twinkle in her eye, one of Lawson's neighbors suggested the animals may have been taken, probed, and then returned to the field by an alien space ship.
The animals are now buried, and Lawson estimated the losses at $3,500.00 for the bull, and $800.00 for the cow.
