07/09/2009: "Sutton Road Site Redesignation Proposed"

A hillside lot next to the existing Sutton Road Waste Transfer station has been proposed to be re-zoned from “Agricultural Resource” to “Rural Industrial.”
The parcel is owned by Public Works. The land does not meet the standards in the San Juan County Comprehensive Plan for a designation of an Agricultural Resource land use.
The parent parcel of the land was subdivided after the designation was assigned to it, and the new 7.1 acre parcel that was created did not meet the standards for Agricultural Resource.
The re-zone has come to the forefront, since an Agricultural Resource designation would not allow the expansion of the Sutton Road Solid Waste Transfer Station; to enlarge the Transfer Station, the land needs to have a Rural Industrial designation.
Public Hearings on the proposal will be held by the Planning Commission and the County Council; dates to be announced.
