04/07/2009: "Poster Contest Winners"


ig_Jessica_Procaccini-1 (46k image)Island Rec's Childrens' Festival Committee has announced the top winners in its "Under The Sea" poster contest.

First Place winner, Jessica Procaccini (photo left) a first grader from Stillpoint School, came up with a lovely watercolor of a fish; won a Wildlife Tour for four on the Western Prince II.

Fourth grader, Ally MacDiarmid took second place winning poster shows an entrancing water wildlife scene and won a gift certificate to Osito's Toy Store. Third place winner, Kenzie Serrat, a third grader, depicted sea life under a submarine won a gift certificate to The Toy Box.

With so much young island talent, it was a difficult decision.

Many posters were submitted for review and the public will have an opportunity to view them on display around town to promote the May 2nd festival.

The first place poster will be on display at Island Rec’s Guard Street office, the second place poster will be on display at festival sponsor Osito's toy store and the third place poster can be viewed at festival sponsor Toy Box.

These winners will be awarded their prizes during a ceremony at the Children's Festival at noon on the main stage.The festival committee wants to thank all the children who participated.

The festival is at the San Juan County Fairgrounds from 10 am to 2 pm. Island Res said they look forward to seeing the public there.

This year’s committee has set sail with preparations for the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 2nd event. Please, mark your calendars. For more information -or to volunteer- call Sally at 378-4953.
