03/06/2009: "Soltman To Be Hired By the Vashon School District"

ig-Michael_Soltman-2 (42k image)San Juan School Superintendent Michael Soltman will soon be the new Vashon Island School District Superintendent -that is, assuming on Monday the Vashon Board takes the expected official action.

Soltman is the only remaining candidate, and assuming the official announcement is made Monday, he will move back to Vashon, where he lived when he was the Associate Superintendent for the Mercer Island school.

Soltman would remain with the SJISD until the end of June, and start his new job on July 1st. The SJISD Board has already taken the first steps to begin a search for a new Director, and will hold a special board meeting March 12th to discuss the process.

The Vashon job will be a step up for Soltman as he assumes control of the three schools that make up the Vashon school district, and it will be a step back from the rural life style he has enjoyed since 2002, when he replaced Steve Enoch as superintendent of the SJISD.

One big difference between his current job and the new job is the amount of money the Vashon District deals with. For example, the District Master Plan is projecting a budget of $75,550,000.00. T

But the main reason for the move is to be closer to his children, who are both students at Vashon High. How does he feel overall about the move? No plans to sell his home here, as he hopes to return to the islands when he retires.
