09/27/2008: "Building Trails"

ig_Trails-2 (51k image)On the heels of the United Way Day of Caring volunteers, and the San Juan Trails Committee, the Land Bank invites the public to help build on their momentum.

This weekend's first work party is pretty spontaneous, they are planning on meeting this Saturday (9-20-08) to keep the work plowing ahead.

As Doug McCutchen of the Land Bank reported after Wednesday's work party, "The work party was a great joy for me and I hope everyone enjoyed it despite the weather. It was great to put some names to faces that I've seen around the island for years. This project will serve the community in many ways for years to come-- both recreationally and as a non motorized transportation corridor. It is my hope that a hundred years from now people will be using this trail and appreciating the foresight and effort of our current community members."

The Goal:
Complete the roughing in of the Land Bank's segment of the Cattle Point Road trail effort linking Friday Harbor and American Camp Nat'l Park.

Dates:
Saturday, September 27th - 9am - noon Thursday, October 15th - 9am - noon Saturday, October 18th - 9am - noon

Where: The "Saunders" Property on Cattle Point Road. Heading south on Cattle Point Road, Turn LEFT on Rosler and immediately RIGHT through the gate into the property. Look for the Land Bank truck!

Bring: water, gloves, loppers, and any grubbing tools (hoe, Mcleod, rake, pulaski, etc)

Wear: sturdy boots, warm layers and/or rain gear (depending on the weather!)
